If you’re here, you’re probably planning to take the Alberta Level 2 General Insurance Exam and want to learn more about it.  You might have even heard its really hard (and it is) but let’s break down what you’ll be up against.

HOW MANY QUESTIONS ARE THERE ON THE ALBERTA LEVEL 2 EXAM?

There are 100 multiple choice questions on the exam with each question being worth 1 mark.

WHAT IS THE PASSING GRADE?  HOW MUCH DO I NEED TO SCORE?

The exam is marked out of 100 but you need a 70% to pass.

HOW MUCH TIME DO I HAVE TO WRITE THE ALBERTA LEVEL 2 EXAM?

You have 2 hours to write the exam.  That’s not a lot of time so you’ll need to focus on the questions you know and skip (for now) the ones you don’t.

WHAT TOPICS WILL BE COVERED AND HOW MUCH WEIGHTING IS GIVEN TO EACH?

60% of the exam will be based on Technical Skills & Risk Management.  This section will test out your knowledge of insurance policies coverages & exclusions (property, liability, automobile, farm, marine & aviation, bonds, etc.).

Within this 60%, here is the approximate breakdown:

  • 29 Property Questions
  • 8 Risk Management
  • 10 Liability Questions
  • 12 Auto Questions
  • 1 Travel

20% will be based on Ethics & Professionalism.  This will test your knowledge of the industry, claims process, privacy, etc.

And the final 20% will be based on Industry Knowledge.  This will test your knowledge of industry associations, regulations, players in the insurance industry, etc.
