One of the questions we get frequently from students and people new to the industry is: what is the Alberta insurance exam registration process? For people who haven’t done this before, it can be a confusing process.

Although some things have changed starting January 1st, 2020, the process is still relatively straight forward:

  1. Study with an AIC approved GLQP education provider like PNC Learning’s Alberta General Insurance Level 1 Course (this is a new requirement started in 2020)
  2. Get approval from your course provider to write the exam
  3. Register for the Alberta Level 1 Exam through the AIC Licensing Portal

And that’s basically all there is to it. Once you’ve completed our course, you’ll receive an email with further instructions on how to request a certification from us to allow you to register for the exam through the Portal.

COMPLETING THE ALBERTA INSURANCE EXAM REGISTRATION

To register for the exam through the Portal, you need to first get a CIPR number. You can do that by doing to CIPR.ca and click “Register” on the top right. If you already have a CIPR number, you can skip this step.

With your new CIPR account, you can now proceed with your Alberta insurance exam registration. Go back to the AIC website, and log into the Portal using your CIPR number (or email) and password. If you can’t log in right away, you may need to wait a few hours for it to update on the AIC’s system.

Once inside the portal, click on “Exams” on the navigation bar on the left-hand side, click “Register for an Exam”, and follow the steps shown here to choose your date/time and complete your exam registration. Although you don’t need to create another CIPR account each time, you will use this same process to register for all future exams with the Alberta Insurance Council.

Pro Tip: Prior to you exam, make sure you review and practice the exam tips found inside the course and other parts of this website.
