The continuing education requirements for Ontario (CE Credit Requirements) are set by RIBO and requirements vary depending on the class of license you hold.
EXISTING LICENSEES (REGULAR LICENSE)
Regular licensees are required to complete 8 hours of continuing education credits (CE credits) between October 1st (start date) and September 30th (end date).
Within those 8 hours, at least 1 hour must be for Ethics, 3 hours for Technical Skills, and up to 2 hours can be for applied Personal Skills (but not necessary).
If you have extra hours, you can carry over up to 8 hours to the next year but you’re still subject to those same category/topic requirements.
NEW LICENSEES

New licensees, like regular licensees, must complete 8 hours of continuing education every year between October 1st (start date) and September 30th (end date). BUT, they are exempt for their first license year.
For example, if you get licensed in February 2018, you do not need to complete the 8 hours by September 30th 2018. But on October 1st 2018, you will need to start taking those 8 hours and complete them all by September 30th 2019.
PRINCIPAL BROKERS
Principal Brokers (sometimes called “nominees” in other provinces) are the heads of their brokerage. They’re essentially responsible for the brokers underneath them. Because they hold this special position of authority and responsibility, they have more stringent annual continuing education credit requirements.
Principal Brokers and Deputy Principal Brokers are required to complete 10 hours of continuing education credits every year between October 1st and September 30th. Of these 10 hours, 1 must be on Ethics, 5 on Management & Personal Skills (not applied) and the remainder can be for Management or Technical skills.
If you have extra hours, you are allowed to carry over up to 10 hours (still subject to the same category requirements) into the next year.
