The Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) is responsible for regulating the activities of life insurance agents in the province. Part of their work includes setting Ontario life insurance CE requirements for life and accident & sickness insurance agents.

If you are from another province, we have separate articles on BC Life Insurance CE Requirements, Alberta Life Insurance CE Requirements, or visit our Life Insurance CE course page for information on all provinces.

ONTARIO LIFE INSURANCE CE REQUIREMENTS

HOW MANY ONTARIO LIFE INSURANCE CE CREDITS DO I NEED?

In Ontario, you need 30 hours of CE every 2 years.

RECORD KEEPING REQUIREMENTS

The OIC may audit you for CE credits at any time so you need to keep a proper record of any training you might have taken. Here’s the information you need to keep:

  • Name of course provider (ie. PNC Learning)
  • Name of course
  • Course/program outline
  • Date/duration of course
  • Final march achieved (if there’s a test involved)
  • Number of CE hours claimed

Thankfully, our LLQP CE course subscription automatically tracks your certificates of completion containing all the required information. Unless you pass the small quiz at the end of each course, you don’t get the certificate.

WHAT KIND OF TOPICS/COURSES QUALIFY FOR CE CREDITS?

The course must be related to “technical aspects” of life insurance so courses on sales techniques don’t count. However, courses on accidental death insurance, disability insurance, and annuities DO count for life insurance CE credits.

What do we mean by “technical”? It can be anything including legal/regulatory matters, fundamentals/principles of life insurance, financial planning, taxation, needs analysis, use of life insurance products, underwriting, risk management, actuarial information, or even key provisions of insurance contracts.
