Starting October 1st, 2019, the Alberta Insurance Council (AIC) has a new General Licensing Qualification Program (GLQP) with a full launch on January 1st, 2020. With this change, there are new requirements for students registering for the Level 1 exam. In this post, you will learn how to register for the Alberta General Insurance Level 1 exam under this new GLQP program.

WHAT CHANGED UNDER THE GLQP?

The biggest change under the GLQP is that students now have to study with an approved educational institution (such as PNC Learning) and be certified by that institution before they are eligible to take the exam with the AIC.

Once you’re certified, you’ll be able to register for the exam as per the usual method. Check out our insurance licensing guide or scroll down for more information on registration.

WHY IS THERE THE GLQP?

The GLQP program was created to fix the problem of low pass rates on the exam and to ensure the exam applicants are high quality.

The GLQP requires education providers to certify students because they want to make sure that students are well prepared before they attempt the exam.

HOW TO GET CERTIFIED BY PNC LEARNING

If you’re enrolled in our Alberta General Insurance Level 1 online course, you will need to pass the final exam found at the end of the course (80% to pass). Once you pass that and reach 100% completion on your course, you’ll get an email from us with a link.

Click the link and follow the steps to either create a CIPR account or log into your existing CIPR account. Once you’re logged in, you should see a screen asking you to acknowledge that you’re a GLQP Registrant of PNC Learning – click yes.

After that, reply to that same email and someone on our side will “certify” you allowing you to register for the exam using the AIC Licensing Portal.

Once you’re certified, you would sign up for the exam through the AIC Licensing Portal. The AIC has published an exam registration FAQ with answers to all of your common questions.
