With the COVID-19 pandemic still running its course in Canada and around the world, we all need to do our part and practice social/physical distancing to help flatten the curve and save lives. In response to this, many provinces like Saskatchewan are working on alternative COVID-19 insurance licensing exam procedures.
Because of COVID-19, the I.B.A.S. has closed their offices for exam purposes starting March 16th, 2020. That said, they have done a great job of ensuring continuity but allowing students more flexible exam writing options.
You can still write the insurance exams in Saskatchewan remotely with a qualified proctor. This includes:
- Your brokerage’s nominee
- A Service Canada or other government office with exam proctoring services
- At an accredited educational institution like your local university or college
Pro Tip: when you call the educational institution or government office, ask for the continuing education department or for proctoring services respectively.
Many of these exam locations were already available to students in rural parts of Saskatchewan so there’s no real change aside from extending that option to other students as well.
COVID-19 SASKATCHEWAN INSURANCE LICENSING EXAM REGISTRATION
To register for the remote exams, follow these 3 steps:
- Log into your I.B.A.S. account
- Click on “My Courses”
- From there, you’ll be able to register and pay for an online or paper exam
- Follow the prompts to select a remote exam
- You will need to take the additional step of nominating a proctor
- If you need help with any of these steps, you may contact the I.B.A.S. directly
In light of all of this, they’ve done a great job of continuing to ensure students have access to examinations and have the opportunities to start or advance their career despite the current climate.
Aside from a change in locations, there is nothing different about the Fundamentals of Insurance or CAIB exams in Saskatchewan.
WHAT ARE WE DOING TO HELP STUDENTS DURING COVID-19?
As you might have seen on our course website, we’re extending enrollments for free for students that have had their exams postponed or if they’re unable to register prior to course expiry because of COVID-19. If you are ill or have been diagnosed with COVID-19, we’re also offering special consideration to these students on a confidential case-by-case basis.
